Over the years there have been many groups springing up claiming that God was a man and enclosed or progressed into being a god. The most predominant of these is the Mormon Church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints). They claim that God was once a man and earned his way to salvation by doing good works and evolved into becoming God and that members of their church that are loyal may earn their salvation and one day evolve into godhood as well.

First off it is impossible for anyone to earn salvation and no amount of good works will bring you there. The Bible clearly tells us:

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
(Ephesians 2:8-9)

For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God. I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
(Galatians 2:19-20)

Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
(Romans 3:20)

Works and good deeds are worthless when it comes to obtaining salvation. It comes through faith and only faith alone in Christ. All other ways are completely worthless.

As for God once being a man and evolving into godhood, the Bible tells us this:

God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
(Numbers 23:19)

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
(John 4:24)

For I am the Lord, I change not....
(Malachi 3:6)

The Bible clearly tells us that God has never been a man and did NOT evolve or earn godhood. He has always been God and never changes or evolves for He clearly states, "For I am the Lord, I change not...."

The first lie Adam and Eve were told in the Garden of Eden by Satan was:

....ye shall be as gods....
(Genesis 3:5)

Satan told them that if they ate from the forbidden fruit that "....ye shall be as gods...." When any religion or group or person tells people that if they follow after them and their teaching and they may become gods, it is just the first lie told to Adam and Eve being told over again, a lie as old as man himself. Don't believe it!
