From a sermon given on 29 March 2026:

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. (Psalm 46:1)

The text today reveals a powerful truth: God is not distant or removed from our struggles, but actively present within them. As refuge, He offers a place of safety and covering; as strength, He supplies the inner ability to endure. The idea of divine proximity means that in every moment of trouble, God is near - closer than our fears, and greater than our circumstances.

Human challenges often expose our limitations and remind us that we cannot depend solely on our own understanding or strength. It is in these moments that God's presence becomes most real. Scripture teaches that His strength is made perfect in our weakness, and that His presence drives out fear and gives stability. Trouble, therefore, is not only a hardship but also an opportunity to experience God in a deeper and more personal way.

To live with this understanding is to develop a steady and confident faith. Instead of being overwhelmed by problems, we learn to rely on God's nearness and sufficiency. He may not always remove the difficulty immediately, but He walks with us through it, sustaining us every step of the way. When we hold on to this truth, we find peace even in uncertainty, knowing that God is truly our present help in every situation.

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
