From a sermon given on 12 November 2023:

He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
(John 21:17)

Life is full of setbacks, failures, obstacles and challenges. Setbacks are critical part of your life. They are supposed to redirect you to where they are supposed to be. They allow us to return to our original state of motivation and hard work that led to our success in the first place.

Peter, the leader of the eleven disciples had a serious setback. He is in record of having denied Jesus three times despite having been given prior notification that he would do so. But after Jesus resurrection, Peter persevered to overcome his personal and spiritual setbacks. Jesus reinstated him and commissioned him to feed his sheep. By the grace of God, despite his imperfections, he became the leader of the Church and performed major exploits in his lifetime.

Setbacks are not a punishment. They are opportunities to learn and grow. They are a part of what makes us real and human. When we face delays, experience interruptions, encounter postponement and suffer disappointments, we don't give up but continue holding on. God is preparing you for greater appointments!

Now Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honourable, because by him the Lord had given deliverance unto Syria: he was also a mighty man in valour, but he was a leper. But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the Lord his God, and strike his hand over the place, and recover the leper. Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? may I not wash in them, and be clean? So he turned and went away in a rage. And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean? And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me. And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately. And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.
