From a sermon given on 21 November 2022:

For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels.
(Luke 9:26)

The sense of shame is one of the strongest in human nature. Man will do anything and everything to ensure that he is highly regarded. At the same time, he will do what it takes to ensure that he avoids anything that can lower his status.

But when it comes to the matters of faith, believers ought not to shy away from what they believe. Those who stand firm and acknowledge the Lordship of Jesus in word and deeds gain more honor than dishonor. Identifying ourselves with our Redeemer is a plus and not a minus to our lives.

If we are ashamed of Christ here on earth, He will be ashamed of us when He return's in glory and splendour. If we deny Christ before men, He will deny us before the father in heaven. We must never be ashamed that we are Christians. We must never hide our identity as believers because of fear and shame. Christ does not want secret followers.

Further readings:

Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven
(Matthew 10:32,33)

Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
(Mark 8:38)

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
(Hebrews 12:2)
