From a sermon given on 10 December 2023:

Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death. Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses.
(Psalm 107:18-19)

This is a vivid description of a dying man. The appetite is gone and all the desire for food fails. Nutriment is no longer necessary for death has seized upon the whole fram. However, when help is sought from our heavenly father, He saves them from their trouble

When we come to our wits end, that's the very moment we discover that God does not help those who help themselves. He will always be there for those who turn to him for help.

We can always turn to God for assistance because “he saveth them out of their distresses.

Further Readings:

I cried to thee, O Lord; and unto the Lord I made supplication. What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise thee? shall it declare thy truth? Hear, O Lord, and have mercy upon me: Lord, be thou my helper. Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness; To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.
(Psalm 30:8-12)

Then called I upon the name of the Lord; O Lord, I beseech thee, deliver my soul. Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; yea, our God is merciful. The Lord preserveth the simple: I was brought low, and he helped me. Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the Lord hath dealt bountifully with thee. For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.
(Psalm 116 :4-8)

Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.
(Jeremiah 33:3)
