Brigham Young, the second president of the Mormon Church, made the following statement concerning Christianity: "We talk about Christianity, but it is a perfect pack of nonsense...it is corrupt as hell; and the devil could not invent a better engine to spread his work than the Christianity of the nineteenth century" (JOURNAL OF DISCOURSES, volume 6, p. 167).
In May of 1977, THE ENSIGN, an official Mormon Church publication, on page 26, carried an article asking, "Are the Mormons Christian?" Part of that article read, "It is true that many of the Christian churches worship a different Jesus Christ than is worshiped by the Mormons or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." This article was quoting Bernard P. Brockbank, who spoke at the Mormon Church's 147th General Conference on this subject.
Gordon B. Hinckley, the current President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, while speaking in Paris, France on June 4, 1998, stated, "The traditional Christ of whom they [the Christian Churches] speak is not the Christ of whom I speak. For the Christ of whom I speak have been revealed in this the Dispensation of the Fullness of Times. He together with His Father, appeared to the boy Joseph Smith in the year 1820, and when Joseph left the grove that day, he knew more about the nature of God than all the learned ministers of the gospel of the ages" (CHURCH NEWS, June 20, 1998, p. 7).
According to the "inspired" teachings of Brigham Young, "If I ever pass into heavenly courts, it will be by the consent of Prophet Joseph" (JOURNAL OF DISCOURSES, volume 8, p. 224); "...No man or woman in this dispensation will enter into the celestial kingdom of God without the consent of Joseph Smith" (JOURNAL OF DISCOURSES, volume 7, p. 289) and, "Whosoever confesseth that Joseph Smith was of God...that spirit is of God; and every spirit that does not confess that God sent Joseph Smith, and revealed that everlasting Gospel to and through him, is of Anti-Christ..." (JOURNAL OF DISCOURSES, volume 8, p. 176).
The Bible tells us that, "Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him I will confess also before my Father which is in heaven" (Matthew 10:32); "Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God" (Luke 12:8) and, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved" (Romans 10:9).
The Bible also warns us, "But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven" (Matthew 10:33) and "But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God" (Luke 12:9).
How can the Mormon Church claim to be our Christian brothers when their own leaders come right out and say that they worship a different Jesus than is taught in the Bible?
How can they be our Christian brothers when they rely upon the permission of a mere man to gain entrance into heaven, when the Bible clearly states that the only way to salvation is through Jesus Christ, God's only Son?
The only obvious conclusion is that the Mormon Church is not Christian and never has been. Until they come to know and accept the one and only true Jesus Christ, as taught in the Bible, they can never really be our Christian brothers. Let each of us who reads this article pray that the Mormon Church will come to know Christ as their personal Lord and Savior before it's too late.
